What to expect from a typical Therapeutic Massage Therapy session

The clinic provides a warm and comfortable atmosphere of relaxation with the scent of aromatherapy oils burning and ambient music.  A typical massage therapy session is either 60 or  90 minutes. Your massage will begin with a brief consultation and review of symptoms, medical history of accidents and operations.

  • You will be asked to undress (people may keep their underwear on) while the therapist is out of the room, and lie face down under a towel on a padded and warm massage table.
  • The therapist will knock on the door to make sure you are ready. Then re-enter the room and will then adjust the face rest, pillow and towels  to ensure that you are comfortable and properly positioned. We will also will check that you are nice and warm.
  • We use either fractionated coconut oil or organic sunflower seed oil on the skin, but you are most welcome to bring another type of oil of your choice to use.
  • Your treatment will be tailored to your specific wants and needs at the time.  We offer Aromatherapy Massage, Trigger Point, Acupressure Point, Deep Tissue and Relaxation Massage,  Foot Joint Mobilisation, Reiki and Energy Healing is also offered.  Individually or in combination to suit.
  • You are underneath the towel at all times, only the part of the body being treated at any one time is uncovered.
  • After the massage the therapist leaves the room so you can get changed.
  • Take your time getting up. If you sit or stand too quickly you may feel lightheaded or dizzy.

Will Therapeutic Massage Therapy Hurt?

Therapeutic Massage therapy may at times be uncomfortable, but clients often describe it as “a good hurt”. There can be pain or aching when pressure is applied over "knots" and other areas of muscle tension. If the pressure is too strong for you, let us know and we will adjust.

Relaxation Massage and Energy Healing is not uncomfortable at all.

How Will I Feel After a Massage?

Most people feel calm and relaxed after a treatment. More movement and flexibility.  Reduction of pain.  Occasionally, people may experience mild temporary aching for up to 48 - 72 hours.

Additional Massage Tips

  • Don't eat a heavy meal before the massage.
  • Bring a bottle of water to drink after the massage.  Toxins are released from the muscles during massage and it is important to drink water afterwards to flush them from the body
